Breakfast and lunch open up online. Dinner does not. The Chateau holds its evening room two weeks out, by phone, and the host decides who gets through. The hotel has spent decades protecting its guests from the outside world, no photographs, a clientele that is mostly repeat and entirely screened, and that same instinct runs the dining room. The book is not a database. It is a guest list, and it favors the people the room already knows.
We are one of those names. The Elusive List has standing relationships with the room, so when the phone line opens two weeks out we are already on it, and we watch the cancellations the public never sees. We put your name where the host stand recognizes it, and we ask for the evening table that the website will never show you.

We reach the floor manager directly, by phone or by text, depending on the night. We do not refresh Resy. We make a call.

We charge the card and send your confirmation — the time and the name to give the host.
You eat.
Walk into Chateau Marmont, give your name at the host stand, sit down. The room takes it from there. We do not see you again until the next request.
